You Gotta Wear Shades
Sunglasses are on item you will never see me without! I have multiple pairs, it is a bit of an obsession, and my sunnies come with me everywhere. Often vacations are spending more time outside and in warm and sunny climates.
Sunglasses are not just a fashion statement or the best way to shade your eyes from light, but they are extremely important for protection.
Wearing sunglass year-round with 100% UVA and UVB protection will provide the best protection. Be sure to check the tag or sticker on the lens. Beware that some discount stores sell sunglasses with a tag or sticker, but it does not always state the level of protection. A sticker that has 400 UV will block all UVA and UVB rays. I would also stay away from companies who give away cheap promotional sunglasses. Chances are they do not block enough UVA and UVB rays.
My favourite type of lenses are polarized for the simple reason is that they reduce glare. This especially helps when near or on the water or in areas with shiny items (amusement parks!) Polarized lenses a must for me! The only downside of polarized lenses is the effect is has on certain screens (phones, tablets and heads-up displays in cars). Screens can be more difficult to see.
Children should be wearing sunglasses too. It is never too early to instil this good habit for protection. Find frames that fit their face well.
Sun glasses do not have to be expensive. Costco sells Kirkland brand polarized sunglasses for $34.99CAD. I do love my Ray Bans because they are incredibly light. But my Serengeti’s, while heavier give such a clear view. But my all-time favourite brand has been Kaenon they are both incredibly light and very clear.
Take great care of them by keeping them in a case when not on your face and they can last a long time!
